how to get your prayers answered I guess that would start off with some assumption that you guys want something maybe something's missing in your life maybe you can relate to this experience that I had when I was um a young teenager I remember going to synagogue and uh didn't grow up in a traditional home so even though I kind of look very traditional I I didn't always look this way I actually growing up I had this huge red afro you know and in Canada that was really uh unusual that a white guy would have a huge red afro but I remember remember my family we did go to synagogue uh regularly
three times a year that was Ram Kipper what I remembered as a child is that prayer is basically uh kind of goes like this right and then we go eat that and that's what I actually thought I thought that the idea of Jewish prayer is that you're only have to say the first word of the page and the last word of the page and since certainly God has read this book seen this book many times uh no need to say all those words uh but then when I got older I found out that that's not true you're actually supposed to some iow understand these words and mean these words and I never really had an
understanding of what does it mean to pray why am I praying to God and I remember one young Kipper I was um I was 15 years old and I went to synagogue and I remember the the rabbi telling the congregation it was about as large as this group here that uh since it is Yum Kipper the holiest day of the year we will be opening the ark the holy Ark where the Torah is uh hosted and it is customary to stand when the Torah Arc is open but if you get tired because it will be open for a very long time you can sit down so I thought to myself you know hey I come here once a year I mean if I got a stand if
the old Lord Almighty wants me to stand I can do that so they opened up the rabbi dramatically said will the congregation please rise and everybody raised right and they open up the holy Ark and then everybody sat down everybody except me and I looked around I said you're all going to hell you're crazy you didn't even stand for more than a half a minute you I'm Gonna Stand look I come here once a year I'm Gonna Stand how long could it take well so I was standing and I was standing and I was standing and now my feet are killing me my back is killing me right and I'm in so much pain and the
whole time the caner is doing the oh I said that that word was 3 minutes I'm going to be here to Kaneka but I don't care because if if God wants me to suffer then I'm I'm willing to suffer I'm Jewish you know and so if I have to suffer just to get my prayers answered I'll do that and I stood and I stood now I'm I'm going crazy I'm getting pain up my my spine I got to sit down but I know how God works I sit down they close the door I go to hell right right I knew I was all being set up anyways I stood and I stood and I stood finally they closed that door and I dropped to my chair and I felt so
good because God loves me because I'm in pain and he likes pain that's what I thought as a Jew my whole life as a Jew growing up was feeling guilty I always felt guilty I don't know what but it was always my fault right somehow was my fault at school I went to a school was not Jewish right and I was told by all the kids beat me up because I killed Jesus right and I told them I don't even know the kid I didn't even play with the kid I don't know I didn't kill anybody you know what does it mean to pray a lot of people are going to synagogue and they're in pain and they think that prayer is all
about begging and bargaining and trying to get God to change his mind I saw this cute comic strip where there's this guy and he's praying to God and he's drowning and the water's coming up to his ankle and says please God please God save me and I'll stop robbing banks but the water's getting up to his knees said please God please God save me right and I'll start I've stopped beating up all the girls on the Block right and the water's getting up to his his his mouth he says please God please God stop me and I and I I will stop stealing cars and then just as he's about to die he says God I
understand you endorse My Lifestyle right in other words people have very confused understandings of what it means to pray to God so what I want to share with you what I call there's the adult version of Judaism and then there's the child's version of Judaism the child's version of Judaism is a good version when you're a child but when you get older someone's got to let you know that your understanding of your tradition has to evolve with you and what I want to share with you is something that you might find a little surprising the first thing you need to know about Jewish prayer is there's
no such thing Jews do not pray what do I mean by that well if you look into the root of the word prayer where it comes comes from it comes from a Latin word which means to beg and that's not what we're doing in synagogue we're not trying to beg and bargain and try and convince God to change his mind what we do is something in Hebrew called leit pel and unfortunately when Hebrew words get translated it's easy possible that that the translation would be lost and confusing and there's also a an assumption that in every language there's another word that correlates to that word in another
language but maybe not maybe many of the words in our tradition don't have a correlative word in another language well in this case I want you to understand that prayer is really the wrong word if the implication is I'm trying to change God's mind and I'm trying to beg and gravel and get him to to see I'm in so much pain and somehow bargain something off that's not what we do what we do is MIT pel and to MIT P or Le heat p is a completely different experience and when you understand it you will understand what it means to get your prayers answered or actually your right to be more correct
answered it so let's start off with theologically what is wrong with prayer and how does it differ from what we call you see theologically to think that you're changing God's mind is really problematic because why do I change my mind you know let's say I'm going out with my wife and we're on our way to get a Chinese dinner we're Jewish so we get Chinese dinners right and we're on our way to get Chinese dinner and uh meet a friend of mine and he says what's doing I said I'm going to get Chinese dinner with my do with my wife he says oh that restaurant you don't want to go there right now A
friend of mine was there the other day and he starts giving me new information about the restaurant I didn't know about that now that I get this new information I change my mind and I go to the Japanese place across the street right what would it mean to change God's mind that would be predicated on an understanding that that God is not omnicient God is not all knowing but our tradition teaches that because God is beyond time and space that the Divine is all knowing so what would it mean that I'm going to somehow change God's mind God already knows I'm giving him new information and what
happens when we're praying let's say for someone who's not well and we pray for someone who's not well what do we actually think's happening God maybe didn't notice but my friend is not well um and I would like him to be healthy and I would like him to have a long life would you please change your mind and make him healthy well what happens if my friend's not healthy I say okay I'll get some more people I'll get some more people to pray for my friend right maybe if there's a few more of us god'll kind of get get the point you know like there's a few of us okay and so we get a few people to
start praying for my friend nothing's happening we say Okay God we get it it we're going to have a gathering a communal Gathering where everyone will pray for our friend to get better nothing happens we say Okay God you want to play hard ball we're sending out an email yes an email thousands of people will annoy you you will hear this guy's name every single day until you change your mind do you really think that's what prayer is about well that's what some people think but that's not what our tradition teaches and not in the suggesting that we shouldn't M pel for our friend but I want to to
understand the dynamic actually how all this really can work in your life so the first thing you need to understand and in fact Ruff cook who is the first Chief Rabbi of Israel he actually says this he says no wonder in a sophisticated Society people can be disgusted with prayer because the common man thinks that prayer is all about trying to beg and and bargain and coax God God to change his mind and he said that reeks of idolatry have Abraham Isaac cook the great cabalist and chief Rabbi of Israel first Chief Rabbi Israel said we don't pray what we do is mitp but now let's figure out what
that means what does it mean leit pel because that's what we do and we've got to get back into our original Jewish experience okay so the first thing I want you to know is in Hebrew there are verbs that are conjugated right in other words there's verbs that we do to ourselves and verbs that we do to other people so for instance if I'm going to dress myself the root for dress is laes if I'm going to dress myself are you familiar with that nod your heads if you are good thank you very much that Dynamic speaker crowd Dynamic thank you okay but if I'm going to my son then very different what they
say conjugating of the root so now you just learned something really obvious if what we do in synagogue or what we do at home is Le heat pel then who are we trying to change ourselves big Paradigm Shift we don't pray because pray means to try and change God what we do is we're mpel and we're trying to change ourselves when we go to synagogue when we open up a sedor we're not talking to God because we think he needs to hear what we have to say and that if he hears what we have to say somehow that'll change his mind we need to hear what we have to say we need to change our mind we need to talk
to the master of the universe and know that if this is what you're going to say to the master of the universe then you better listen up to what you want and what's really on your mind but what is pel mean leit means to do something to yourself but what are you doing to yourself you are peling yourself right pel what does the word pel mean so the best way to find out what our tradition really means is go into the original book The Torah and see where are words being used the word pel is found in a very touching moment in our history Jacob is nearing his death his son ysep comes and asks his
father for a blessing for his two children epim and Min and you might recall the story how Jacob was led to believe that ysep was killed and only later 22 years later did he ReDiscover his son and his son has two children and now is the end scene of Yakov Jacob our father ysep says Daddy he didn't say Daddy he said ABA he said uh I want a blessing for my children and this is what Jacob said lo palal I never palel that I would have ever seen your face and yet the Divine has Grace me to see the face even of your children so what does pel mean put in Phil in in the sentence I never would have
imagined I never would have dreamed I never would have anticipated I never would have thought I'm pretending that you're actually saying this and I'm responding this convincing okay that's what it means leit pel leit pel is not prayer I'm not coming to God to communicate information that he might not have and hope that he will change his mind rather leit pel is I am speaking out my soul to God is the soul of All Souls and what am I doing Rashi the great commentator explains what did Yakov say Lo pal I didn't P I didn't fill my heart to think the thoughts that I would have ever seen your face
again and yet I've been graced to see the face of even your children so you know what it means when you go to synagogue this is what it should mean you know what it means when you open up a CID this is what it should mean it means that you are involved in an exercise of filling your heart to think the thoughts to dream the dreams to want those ultimate wants in your life that's what it means who's running the S who's running the service the Khan right referred to as caner but in Hebrew the one that is running the service is called the Kazan what does the word Kazan mean it comes from the
Hebrew word Kaz and what does kazon mean means Vision in other words the Kazan is leading the congregation in an exercise of visionary dreaming thinking we're envisioning and we are anticipating people PE on Earth we are envisioning and anticipating Health we're envisioning and anticipating the Gathering of our people and the restoration of our land and the more we want what God already wants the more the will of God can come into our lives in other words most people think that the whole point of prayer is to try to get God to want what we want and and that is the point of prayer but that's
not the point of leit pel the point of leit P our unique experience is not how to get God to want what I want how to get me to want what God wants and the more I align my will with the Divine will the more we turn on and tune in and become a channel a receiver for God's will in the world you see what I want you to understand is we don't want to change CH God's mind and we don't need to change God's mind because God singl mindedly forever only wants to give every single one of us the best the absolute best so why am I not experiencing the absolute best in my life because I'm not tuned in and
receptive to that blessing coming into my life the great cidic founder leader of theic movement the shum explains that a curse in your life is an unwanted blessing blessing is trying to get into your life but because you're not oriented to it because you're not receptive to it you experiencing it literally experiencing it in a negative way it's almost like a bat if you know anything about bats right why do bats fly in the dark because they can't handle the light so in other words if a b was sitting on the table and we were to shine a light in its eyes and slowly intensify the light what would
the bat experience Darkness Darkness for a bat dark is light and light is dark and so too for us Judaism teaches that only light is coming into the world only Godly presence is coming into the world but if we're not tuned in if we're not aligned in mind and in will well then that blessing transforms into something very painful and and and but only for the sake of trying to help us retune ourselves retune ourselves so how does the Jewish approach to prayer which I'd rather not call prayer but how does it really work how do you get your prayers answered answer them answer your pray prayers
right in other words don't sit around passively waiting and thinking that if I pray to God then somehow he's going to change something rather the way I change my situation is by getting in touch what do I really want what is the greatest vision is this aligned with God's ultimate Vision in the world and if there's an alignment then the blessings come in the world it's like when you're flying in a plane right I fly often to New York and sometimes it's it's a pretty gray cloudy day but they tell me that there's no sun today don't believe them there's never day without Sun there's clouds that
block out the sun we according to our mystical tradition through the things that we think and the things that we say and the Deeds that we do we can create these clouds that block out the light of blessing from penetrating into our lives and what do we need to do we have exercises one of those exercises is called the Heat pel and that exercise is to fill your heart to dream the dreams to align and get in touch when you open up the sedur when you open up our our book of prayer again I'm uncomfortable with the word then what our sages have done is given us an amazing exercise of what's really
worth wanting what's really worth wanting in other words right now in this room there is Japanese music playing is there anybody here hearing that music no because we haven't tuned our radio into it but if we were to tune in a radio Japanese music would be here our mystical Masters tell us that the Garden of Eden is here right now maybe even more so because it's Sinai and daba and we're a little more I think a lot more attuned to it but we never left the Garden of Eden in essence but in mind and so if we close our minds to the blessing in the abundance of divinity in our lives then we live in
a dark world but that Symphony of godliness is trying to penetrate into our lives and we need a lifestyle through what we think and what we say and what we do to align ourselves tune ourselves and allow for that incredible music to come into our lives the more we want what God all along has been wanting to give us the more what God wants to give us can begin to penetrate in our lives one more point and then I'm hoping to get questions from you one way of understanding this idea is well expressed in one of the most cabalistic films I ever saw I think you might have seen it too it's called The
Wizard of Oz how many of you have seen The Wizard of Oz okay thank you for admitting that okay how many saw it after they were 30 years old okay so what really interesting about the wizard of actually demonstrates a very deep Jewish secret right because in The Wizard of Oz what you have is this girl Dorothy she doesn't really so much appreciate her aunt or her uncle and then this tornado or hurricane throws her away Exiles her from her home and she lands in a place with little munchkins right and now all she's thinking about I got to go home I want to see my ANM I got to go home I want to get
home but now it's not so simple because now you have to follow the yellow brick road right because there's a wizard there's somebody who has all the answers he's all the way over there you just follow the yellow bck Road okay so Dorothy she she's got to get home she wants to get home that's all she's dreaming about she wants to get home so she's going to go go go to the wizard on her way to get to the wizard she meets a straw man and he needs what did he need he needed a brain probably right and then you got a tin man and he needed a heart I think and then you got a lion and he needed Courage
the three things we all need intelligence heart and courage and she needs a home that's a perfect life but where do you get that there's a wizard he's somewhere over there he's got all the answers Okay so we've got to get to the wizard and they're working really hard to get to the wizard but of course every great story has a witch and the witch is trying to stop Dorothy from getting to the wizard and the more the witch tries to stop Dorothy the more Dorothy has the opportunity to just demonstrate her fortitude and affirm I want to get home I've got to get to the wizard and she finally gets to
the wizard and she discovers that he's really not a wizard at all he's just some Professor from Kansas City right I mean how devastating but the wizard said it's not a problem right I can take you home I've got this balloon I can take you home okay so Dorothy's kissing all the munchkins goodbye right and then waiting to get onto her balloon but suddenly there's a technical difficulty and off goes the wizard the wonderful Wizard of odds and his balloon takes off Dorothy is devastated this was her last chance she wanted to get home and now she can't get home and then what happens if you recall
this bubble this beautiful bubble starts forming and in this bubble is this beautiful Angelic woman right and what is her name Glinda Glinda numerical value gatria mashiach right check that out okay and Glinda shows up and Glinda sees Dorothy crying and she says what's wrong Dorothy and dth said I want to go home I want to get home I got to go home I want to go home so what is Dorth what does Glenda say she says Dorothy that's not a problem all you have to do is click your heels three times and say there's no place like home there's no place like home there's no place like home now when I was
a child at this moment in the film I got really angry at Glenda I was really angry at Glenda I was really angry say Glenda Glenda that's not nice I mean if I were Dorothy I would have said to Glenda Glenda now you show up now you show up you couldn't have showed up earlier do you know how much money I'm going to pay on therapy on getting all those flying monkeys out of my head why didn't Glenda show up earlier because until Dorothy deep in her heart knew what she wanted and deeply wanted it and so clearly visioned in her life where she needs to get to the blessings would come into her life
you want your prayers answered right well then stop praying start M pel start filling your heart dream the dreams your will get in touch with what's really really worth wanting we're in a very very dangerous a very painful generation recently I read a book that pointed out that the average American and my guess is also in South Africa the average America American is encountering 3,000 commercials a day there are people who spent millions of dollars to figure out how to convince you to want their product because you believe that that's what you want and that will enhance your life we're in a
generation Rabbi solic once said we're in a generation that doesn't know what they want we don't know what's worth wanting the whole idea of leit P wasn't to communicate to God what I want and clarify to God what I want but hear myself talking to God and clarify for myself what do I really want what do I really really really dream about what will really matter what's really important I have a friend not a Jewish fellow he works in a uh in a in a funeral home he told me that he was embarrassed when theyed the new catalog for the caskets and it was so embarrassing they have these caskets with
these beautiful models scantily dressed pointing to the caskets lying on the caskets such low advertising someone has lost their beloved and this guy has to show them a catalog to pick a casket for their beloved we're in a world it's playing with our heads everywhere we go trying to convince us this is what you should want this is what you should dream for but our tradition is all about what is God's prayer for us and if we get in touch with God's prayer for us then we'll get in touch with what in our deepest deepest depths we want and when you will want what's really worth wanting and really
truly in your heart what's important then that will align up and the blessing will come in obviously the question is but sometimes it doesn't work right well maybe what you want isn't really what you need right now you know and I remember there was a great kic Master perhaps one of the most influential kic Masters in the world and he always used to tell usim you can't always get what you want but if you try sometime you'll get what you need that was mosha Jagger mosa yagger from the Rolling Stones okay so you can't always get what you want but you'll always get what you need and even if what
you're experiencing might be very painful then the first thing is saying if this is what's happening then I want it because if God is giving this to me now then somehow this is a blessing for me this is an opportunity for growth right and I'm going to work with that and grow through that and I will seek to bring more of God's guidance in light into my life God should bless you all Sinai and daa is really amazing I am in great gratitude we all should be in great gratitude to the chief Rabbi and the Ritson and um you see what happened at the original Sinai is when we all put our minds and
hearts together we were able to tune into the most beautiful most profound teachings from the ultimate from God and that's how it all works tune in turn on tune in and become a vessel to receive the presence the guidance and the love thank you very much so we have some time for questions the question is that I think what you're saying I I would like to just broaden out a little bit more when we open up the sidor the prayer book again I'm not a fan of the word prayer um it does sound like we're trying to change God so as I mentioned Judaism is written for all ages in all stages of human
develop Jewish development and so the Torah is written also in a language that will relate to all ages in all stages of human development the teachings of theic Masters in the cabalistic Masters are to give us the inside story and begin to understand the deeper Dimension Behind These teachings so the truth is that everybody says the sun sets but I think by now we all know that that's not true the sun does not set but it's really the Earth that's moving it's not really the sun that's moving okay the arer of Isaac laier ra vital and the introduction to the a he makes this very very clear it's
not God that changes it's us that changes we experience God changing but what's really happening is we're changing okay so we speak as if God changed but we realize in the deeper teachings that it's really us that had to make the change Hashem doesn't need to change he's been sending His blessings all along they're just coming in a format that's very painful if there's beautiful music playing but we're not tuned in then we hear noise we hear terrible noise but it's actually the music trying to get through but you're not tuned in so it's a matter of just understanding who is written for and
what level the student is at and the way they're ready to hear it if I'm not changing hashem's mind what am I thinking when I'm when I'm praying for their health am I praying for their health great question anticipated that teaching this talk a few thousand times so it always comes up and I just wanted you to ask that question so what am I really doing have my Abraham Isaac cook actually addresses this point and he says this again going back to the basic premise p is to change yourself not to change God but I can change other people with my prayer you see if someone's not well then for
whatever reason something's not aligned somehow those blessings are not getting into their life so we can change them how because this person has now become a conduit of Greater God Consciousness in the world so I pray for this person and this person somehow inspires me enough to recognize that God is the source of all blessing and the source of all healing the more we recognize that God is the source of all healing the more healing actually can come into the world this person just became the conduit for that greater Consciousness they're not the same person but if they're still not well then
we get more people to pray for them now this person has now become an inspiration and a for greater conscious for greater people now we have thousands of emails going all over the world for this one person so you're changing the person and you can possibly position them so the blessing can come into their life but what happens if the blessing doesn't come into their life so there's a very famous story about a rabbi and he's at a funeral of nakan vaxman nakan vman as you might recall was a boy in the Israeli Army kidnapped by terrorists we prayed all the Jewish people I'm sure all over the
world where Hearts were united we lit the chief rabet asked us to Light Special candle Shabbat night Friday night for noam's safety and then we were all devastated and so deeply saddened to hear that an attempt to save noxin he was killed at the funeral the father of noxin turns to the rabbi that was the teacher of nakan growing up in high school and he said Rabbi my son has a question my son wants to know how is it that the entire Jewish people were praying for his safety and he died what would a rabbi say to a grieving father at the funeral so the rabbi said I don't know I I I can't answer
that question the father said well I'll answer the question the answer is God said no in other words sometimes we're trying to align ourselves to God's will but that's not God's will for whatever reason this soul is ready to leave the world some of the greatest greatest Jewish leaders in our history left the world early the arel right left this world to 39 people say that you can't learn cabal until you're 40 he was the master of cabala he didn't even make it to 40 the ramal didn't make it to 40 the rman of Bret didn't make it to 40 okay we didn't come here to stay we're just passing through
okay so again we pray for People's Health because we've been commanded that we should try and align our wills and unite our hearts to be a vessel and a receptive radio transmitter to receive the blessings of God's Health into the world but if it doesn't happen that's because there's something else being broadcasted or God casted and we have to let go okay but we are playing a very important role that's our job our job is to become the radio and and we're all little transistors in this radio and if we could all just unite our minds right this second and all together dream that beautiful dream
for our people in this world then we would actually make a huge difference in this world we didn't change God's mind God wants peace on Earth never changed his mind wants human beings to be happy never changed his mind sadly enough we changed ours and now we can work in changing it back how did work in this week's para with Moshe and some of the discussions with the ne IM when they were talking with Hashem and it seemed like Hashem wanted to do one thing and then they were having a conversation with him and they said what about this don't do that and they seem to actually touch God's heart
and then events change did they have a special Authority or what was going on in those conversations right what's again there's the there's one way of reading it but then when you're clued into the mystical principles of what's really going on what's really going on is God is setting up Moshe to position his prayer properly so that he can then be the vessel to bring that blessing in the world right there's times where God would say leave me alone which was wink wink you got to do something right you can change right you know um no in our tradition isn't considered to be an amazing personality
because he didn't pray for his community he didn't pray for the world he was told that the world is going to be destroyed and he said well okay well where do I start building and when do we start sailing off he didn't try to be a vehicle for God's blessing in the world right the Zoar the great Center of cabalistic wisdom explains that the the the um generation of the flood was actually positioned to receive the Torah but because they had so distorted their ways of thinking and relating to each other the Waters of Torah came into the world and turned into a flood but it really meant to be
Torah but they weren't receptive and so it just came in in a different format okay so therefore all this bargaining back and forth Abraham bargaining with God God was really so to speak positioning Abraham ask ask ask for the right reasons I really want to give it to you but I need you to want it see let me share with you an important idea God wants to give you the greatest but if you don't want it it's not the greatest for instance let's say I want to give my friend a gourmet meal it's their birthday so I'm going to surprise them I invite them over Tuesday night say if you could come over
about 8:00 I wanted to discuss something with you okay they're on the road over and they're thinking oh you know I'm really hungry 8:00 is a silly time to be getting together and obviously David's got something of great importance he wants to talk to me about so he stops off right at a burger you know burger place and he knocks off some burgers and gets some fries and now he's very satiated comes to my house I have been spending the last three days preparing this gouret meal for him he walks in not knowing what's about to happen I walk him into the dining room I fling open the doors and I go
surprise he goes oh you really shouldn't have whoa wow wow that's all for me yeah yeah oh great right what does he do he doesn't want to hurt my feelings so he's going to eat this gourmet meal and of course this gourmet meal will eat him all night long cuz he's not hungry you see our tradition teaches that Hashem wants to give us the absolute best never ever wants to hurt us only wants to heal us sometimes it hurts to be healed but if you don't want that blessing then God can't give it to you I mean he can give it to you but you won't get it because God wants to give you something that you
really want and so we're wasting our time you know when I was a child so you know I was very much into rock and roll and one of my favorite musicians was a woman named Janice Joplin and I dating myself which is a weird thing to do right I'm married right right you heard of Janice Joplin okay so Janice Joplin had a prayer this was her song oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes bz my friends all have Porsches I must make amends worked hard on my lifetime with no help from my friends oh Lord won't you buy me a mercedesbenz that was her prayer thank you very much yeah I actually I think I did that
much better than Jack um but that's a prayer I want a mercedesbenz I want a colored TV right that's what you want is that what you want that's the sad thing we're in a world that wants the wrong things and not only that it's not things that we want I mentioned on Shabbat I saw this bumper sticker it was a it was a Divine bumper sticker the best things in life are not things we don't want things we want love it's not a thing we want meaning it's not a thing we want happiness it's not a thing but we're so fixated on stuff and more stuff and then building bigger houses so they have more place
for all our stuff but you know what we're all stuffed up because what do you really want do you want love do you want meaning you want a sense of purpose in your life you want to feel significant and whole well then a lot of these little toys that we're buying I saw a guy with a t-shirt the other day it says the one that dies with the most toys wins I don't want to die with the most toys right I don't want to die with the most toys I'm just so thrilled to have a Jewish life because the teachings of Judaism has helped me get in touch with what's really worth wanting and what's really worth
focusing on and what's really worth dreaming about you know and then when you're aligned with God's will and you're thirsting that in your life it comes into your life right it might take time but it will come it really will come it might be in the next life this is not the end this is just part of the journey RAB I was just hoping you could explain how to fill in fits in with this concept of toilla and how best could we use toilin to tap into the true essence of toilla so you would like to know about toilin right is everybody familiar what the Fillin is because that might make it a little
complicated in in in in English fill and have been unfortunately uh uh referred to as filteries which sounds like something you get in a drugstore I don't want fies what are Fillin what what are filling uh to Fillin are those black leather boxes that we put on our head and on our arms I don't really want to talk just about filling because that would be a whole class which I'd be happy to give but right right now but I want you to know the entire Judaism is a science and that science is very simply um captured in one of the teachings of pavot the teachings of our fathers which is make his will
your will if you align your individual will with the will the universal will of God then you become a channel for God's will in the world so when we're putting on it to fill in what we're basically doing is we're we're connecting ourselves to God's Oneness and we're committing and recognizing that all our physical motor skills belong to God and when we put our filling on our head we're raing we're we're we're we're acknowledging that all our mental faculties are really coming from and seeking to align those faculties with God and the more what you're thinking and what you're doing is align
with God the more the presence of God becomes channeled in your life to the world you know I had the opportunity to learn Torah teach Torah to a pretty famous actor by name of Kirk Douglas I don't if you heard of Kirk Douglas so I had the opportunity to kind of be part of turning him on to his Judaism many many years ago Kirk used to fly me to Los Angeles every six weeks to sit and study five hours a day in his home in Beverly Hills and the Kirk would come and get me at the hotel one day in the morning I came out of the um came out of the elevator and I saw this mob happening in the lobby now
generally I would stand outside the hotel and Kirk would pick me up but I realized that I may maybe I was late and Kirk walked into the lobby now if you're in Los Angeles you want to see a star and Kirk Douglas this Mega legendary star walks into the lobby then you are mobbed and I saw something that really shocked me the receptionist from the hotel she was like determined she grabbed the napkin that was on the desk and she literally bulldozed everybody out of her way went up to Kirk Douglas said Mr Douglas could I please have your autograph and Kirk was very gracious and he signed her
autograph right and I looked at this woman with this piece of paper that had his autograph on it I mean I wanted Kirk's autograph also but on checks right but on a piece of napkin that didn't really make much difference to me but I think she could sell it on eBay well anyways This Woman's got this napkin she just looking and she's treasuring it and then she sneezes into it okay right well I got into the car with Kirk and I said Kirk now I understand to fill in he said what are you talking about I said what I just witnessed gave me Clarity on the meaning of why we put on to Fillin he said I
don't know what you're talking about I said you know when you put on your toilin you're actually writing God's name on your body right you have a shin you have a doid you have a yud which is one of the names of God you've been commanded to autograph every Mo morning one of God's masterpieces you your Masterpiece Kirk because you're a piece of the master and the more you realize that and the more you realize that to be true with the person sitting beside you and the person living across from you and every other human being the more the blessing the presence of God will be right here right now
it already is we just have to open our Minds open our hearts think talk and act in ways which will align ourselves to allow the godcast right not the podcast but download divine presence into our lives thank you very much all English lectures are available online at hob.com
